Title say's it all really! What is your horse / pony fed in the way o suppliments and why?

Ok - Fern is feed ---
* Joint suppliment (NOT Cortaflex) - arteritus
* Seaweed (Naf) - general condition!
* Codliver oil (Naf) - Joints!

So what is your horse feed?

Lucy and Fern!

Well, Holly has linseed oil for her coat and many other things (look up flaxseed or linseed oil on a google search for all it's properties), cider vinegar which is supposedly good for a whole host of things, one of them being arthritis which I know that you said in the past that Fern also suffers with. I am now feeding NAF D-itch feed supplement for her sweet itch, she is also on Arthri-Aid for her arthritis, and both her and Lady the pony have garlic added to their feed.

Sometimes when I am doing the feed, I feel that I put more effort into it than I do the family meals!

Let me see, All of our horses are on ultimate finish which is used to gain/keep weight and help with the coat and everyone is also on biotin which helps with their coat and their hooves and all that stuff. Caesar and Boo Boo are on Hylamotion which is a joint supplement that is AWESOME but it cost $43.00 a month for one horse!!

Sherbert has:
-a few cloves of garlic (for the flies and to improve her circulation)
-a mixture of 1/4 potassium chloride and 3/4 sodium chloride (essentially electrosalts)
-vegetable-based oil (for healthy systems)

TLC Oil? Uhh around here, TLC is a farming supply store. I don't think feeding them oil for tractors would be necessarily the best, but I think it's a different thing.

Each week, Solo is on:
- Biotin/Methionine (Improving condition of her hooves)
- Hi/Fat Fiber (Weight Control)

My little hippo is on biotin (NAF), she had some quite bad cracks in her hooves and generally rather crap feet when I bought her. Her feet have improved so much on it that you can see a line growing down where she changed from not having biotin to having biotin!

You're thinking of TSC, not TLC! The name of the store is "Tractor Supply Company." I would have mixed them up too, so no hard feelings!!! ;)

None of my horses gets supplements except for Rumby, who gets FluidFlex for joints every day. Plus he gets a two-week pop of Pentaflex-HA with hyaluronic acid every six months, orally.

I give SELECT supplements. Specifically Select II as it has a properly balanced calcium phosphorus ratio for my young horse's bones.

Bud gets Equinyl CM (glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM) to keep his joints in good health.

I also give him NuHoof Maximizer, a biotin-based hoof supplement recommended by my farrier, as he tends to have soft, shelly hooves. I'm guessing it does it's job well, as his hooves have improved quite a bit over the year.

Bit of a supplement junkie:o Rio gets garlic, which was originally added to the bucket to make hifi lite more edible, as a tonic and because she likes it. She also gets cider vinegar, for the same reasons and for her joints, and omega oil for her joints and coat. Probably be fine with none of them but what the heck:D

Bebe is having a few supplements at the minute, though I don't feed most of them for long periods.

She always gets Baileys Lo-Cal feed balancer to supply her with protein, vitamins and minerals. This is because she doesn't get much feed other than grass or hay.

On top of that, at the moment she's getting:

Magnesium Oxide - trialling this to see if it helps keep weight off her during the spring flush of grass, it's supposed to be good for laminitics, very good doers, etc as these horses can be deficient in magnesium. Too early to tell if its working. She'll only be on it for another month or two though.

Apple Cider Vinegar - seems to ward off the worst of the flies and also good for her joints and coat. She gets this from March-Sept or so.

NAF Pink Powder - this is a temporary thing. With the spring grass her manure went a little runny so she's having 2 weeks of pink powder to give her gut a chance to sort itself out.

Ellie has NAF Oilovite to make sure she gets all her vitamins, minerals and other good bits. She used to get garlic and hoof supplement but Oilovite has a bit of everything in so ive cut them out. Only been using this for a week or two so havent seen any results yet. Has anyone else used Oilovite before?

What do you think of Placid, am thinking about starting jumpy mare on this? Any replies/thoughts welcome

I think Placid works really well for Flyte. He isn't that bad it just takes the edge of his TBness. So if your mare isn't that bad then I recommend it. If she is particually sharp or jumpy I have also used steady up before on my last horse which is even better but it is more expensive. Torx
