Where are the best places for me and a friend to go and take our BHS stage 1 exam (we are based in the Leatherhead area). We are both 16 and want to do the exam but I'd like to know what different centres in our area are like.
Also if anyone can recommend anything else for stage 1 or give any tips i would be very grateful!

Thankyou

Hi,

Be sure you are really really well prepared, as the exam is expensive.

The standard for the riding is very high - ensure that you can work at a very fast pace in all gaits.
Best of luck,
Jackie

Best advice I can offer is to book an assessment lesson at exam centres near you and see which you prefer. I have heard good things about Naval Riding and Ryecroft but you need to try to see if they suit you. And yes the standard does expect you to do more than just be able to walk, trot or canter so you really need to have some tuition with someone who knows the standard.

Re the BHS Exam,

Where is the Kent Riding Centre that you rate - as I will re-sit the exam I am looking for a better place.

I am involved in professional examinations in another capacity, and found the approach of the examiners during my exam sub-standard and not professional.

Anyone who can advise on where the exam is taught as you mentioned would recieve much gratitude from me and others. The exam should be a learning experience, not an opportunity for instructors to frighten candidates.

I've just had a spring clean of this thread to remove references to a named examiner as we don't want to get into trouble on the board. I haven't altered anyone's words, merely deleted some entire paragraphs.

If anyone wants to carry on the conversation about this named examiner, please don't use the main board to do so!

Thanks,

Sarah
