Why are there so many to choose from,i'm soooo confused.I've been reading all manner of advertising, and like most manufacturers they all say theirs is the best.Does it come down to trial and error,or recomendation from friends when buying. What do you feed and why?

You should feed for age, workload temperment and condition. What kind of feed would you like your horse to have? How old is your horse? Whats his workload, temperment and condition (i.e good doer, skinny etc?
Charlie was, when ridden, on HiFi Lite Chaff and Competition Mix with supplements. Now he is on box rest and has HiFi Lite Chaff and High Fibre cubes. Shaka has been on HiFi Lite and Riding Horse Mix 2, which is an oat mix, but when he was with me he mostly had Competition Mix, also an oat mix. Now he also has High Fibre cubes.

I agree with Shaka it is down to workload etc but some of it is trial and error and knowing your horse. My horse Jody is a very good do-er and never needs anything like the quantities recommended by the feed companies. I like Alfa A as it puts a good shine on Jody's coat and her hooves are better as well. Rather than buy Alfa A separately I buy a mix with it in. Currently she is on Saracen fibre mix and is doing well on it. She looks good but isn't silly when ridden which is a problem I have had with some cool mixes. I think she reacts to the molasses in some of the mixes rather than the cereals.

I feed my horse sweet 12 horse feed. I only feed him a cup or two because he is fat and dosent work as much. Otherwise he gets his hay in his hay bag.

Dolly's a VERY good doer. She gets access to grass 24/7 but as soon as my grazing muzzle arrives, she'll be wearing that from 5pm to 6.30am every night for at least the next month.

After she's been ridden, I give her a tiny handful of Happy Hoof, with Equivite supplement and garlic mixed in. I normally also chuck in a handful of low-fat, high-fibre treats so it looks like more than it is :)
