Safi has developed a very aggressive sarcoid on her belly, surrounded by smaller growths, all come up very suddenly:(
Vet is looking at going down the Liverpool cream route although biopsy being done today for confirmation as to whether this is the best bet.
Poor Safi she's only just got better from a mysterious hard lump that appeared on her spine - we thought at one stage it was kissing spine:eek: but it may have been a splint in a very unusual place - it subsided just before we were due to start scans / x rays as it was baffling everyone - so don't know if we are going to have a reoccurance.
So gutted as she was due to start her showing career and after sorting out all the behavioural / training issues it's now just one thing after another.....she's now living the life of reilly kicking up her heels in the field whilst I spend hours biting my nails and worrying.
Do you sometimes think you should give up??

Oh no! Oh, poor Safi. Is it painful too? Hope not...
Please let us know about the biopsy as soon as you get a chance.
Lots of hugs for you & for Safi.

hi Larri,
I'm sorry to hear about Safi.
Sarcoids aren't always as bad as the owner fears they are - Tango had one and had the Liverpool cream and it disappeared very quickly. That was 6 years ago and we haven't seen another one on her.
I hope the biopsy result comes quickly so that she can get on the road to recovery.

Just spoken to yard owner, Vet has just left and Saf is sedated up to eyeballs. He's actually applied a band to the main body of the growth to cut the blood supply off and reduce the size before they start treating it.
Work won't let me go early so I can get to the yard and see her:mad: :(
pretty down about everything right now, both my dogs have got problems too...the vets love me:rolleyes:

Sorry to hear that larri. I went through it with Lili last year - but in her case, after the Liverpool cream arrived the sarcoid disappeared of it's own accord. The cream is still at the vets. Fingers crossed that Safi has a positive outcome too.

Ooh that's not nice, the vet cream does seem to have good effects on a lot of horses, don't be too depressed.
By the sound of it just threatening some of them with it seems to work!:D :D it only needs to get as far as the vets by the sound of it in some cases.

(((Hugs)))
On a positive note Peri's full brother had a sarcoid on his upper hind leg banded as a 5yo. It dropped off on it's own and never recurred - he will be 17 yo this year.
Hope Safi has the same good outcome.

That's terrible news, Larri! :(
Best of luck to Safi. It sounds like she is having a lot of medical problems lately. I hope she recovers nicely.

hello larri, sorry to hear your horse has developed a sarcoid ,my sec c has just had one removed from his lower chest and is left with 7 large stitches i have to remove on wednesday.
he had only one but there was no root in to the muscle, it was just on the skin so i am hoping it will not return .
i had it removed because i am hoping to sell him later this year and having spoken to raynor my vet she said he may not get another one as sometimes happens after one or 2 are removed .
if the sarcoid seeds after being removed or disturbed ,more can appear in the same place .
i do wish you well with your horse and that the treatment is successfull .

I'm going through exactly the same as you. My grey 4 year old cob has just had one removed from his girth area (of all places)2 weeks ago it seems to be healing up but I noticed today another one seems to be forming right next to site. My vet is waiting to receive the liverpool cream for me but I'm really upset. I,ve had him since last September and there was no sign of any of them when I bought him they just seemed to appear from nowhere. Its where it is that makes it worse I've no idea when I can use a saddle on him again. He's the best horse I,ve ever had never been an ounce of trouble since I've had him and rides like he is about 12, so so sensible. It seems bad stuff always happens to the nicest ones I've had some real pigs in my time that never had to have the vet and now I have an angel with this! Sorry getting all sorry for myself now better get on with the roast dinner and get stuck into the wine sniff sniff would appreciate some feedback to cheer me up.

My section D has had 2 sarcoids 'ringed' and treated with the liverpool cream (mega expensive) on his sheath - ouch!!! This was done 2 weeks ago. They have now dried up and look ready to fall off. He had another removed from his chest in the same way in March.
It's really worrying because he's got lots of tiny warty things on his sheath which the vet says could develop into sarcoids, and only time will tell.
I did try camrosa ointment, and it did seem to be doing something, but I just couldn't leave them to get bigger and bigger before the eventually fell off like it says in the camrosa literature.
Sarcoids are complete b*!*!*!*
Hope Safi soon recovers. My boy was wide awake within an hour of being sedated.

Chin up Larri - hopefully Safi will be one of those cases that turns out to be not half as bad as you thought. :)
I think having sick animals is one of the most depressing things you can experience - it isn't just the fact that you're worried about the outcome, you've also got the dreadful problem of not being able to explain to them what's going on. I'm not good in that situation because I tend to get exasperated and angry when I feel helpless. :(

Thanks for all the hugs guys !!!
Well I'm still just waiting for this huge bloomin one to drop off so we can start treatment ...no news to report other than that. I'm still riding as luckily they are all in her groin.
Cobby how long after they were ringed did they come off and how soon after that did the treatment start? I'm a bit lost because the vet didn't leave any instructions and I haven't a clue where we go from here.
It seems to be a horribly common problem:(

My vet ringed the sarcoid on my boys chest, and at the same time injected some of the Liverpool cream into it. It took about 6 weeks to fall off, but shrank noticably within days. There's no mark now of where it was. The 2 on his sheath have been treated in the same way, about 3 weeks ago now. One looks ready to fall off any day, but the larger one seems like it's going to take longer. It looks completely dead and dried up, but it does look a bit sore where it's detatching from his healthy skin. I think he must have knocked it while rolling, so I'm putting camrosa around it to keep the flies off.
Sarcoids are much more common than I'd realised - until my boy got them I think I'd only ever known one other horse to have them.
