Just want to say that I jumped a crosspole in my lesson on Saturday. Jumped about 3-4 times and it was so much fun.

Thanks!!
As for smiles, I can hardly stop!!
Too bad no one here at work would have the slightest interest in knowing about it.
No lesson next week as all will be at a show. May go for a trail ride instead even tho it's expensive for 2 people to go out for 2 hours.

I'm supposed to start jumping over cross rails in a week or so. I can't wait. And I empathize with not having anyone at work to brag to about it. The women in my area in my office are all afraid of horses. Fortunately, I have a lifelong friend whose daughter rides and I can tell her about it.

Well, I could talk to my husband, but he was there!
He did not jump tho because it was his horse's 2nd lesson in a row and it was very hot and humid. In the mid-90s. I could have gone on another few hours or so

I jumped for the first time last night! 18" (half a meter) cross poles. Like the previous poster, I did it about 4 or 5 times (I'm so high I can't remember!) I could have gone on and on.
It was the first night I'd actually cantered for any extended length of time too. Wow. What a night!
It was hard getting to sleep last night and I had to tell EVERYONE I did it. Almost told the people at the McDonald's drive-thru, but stopped myself.

Thank you for all the encouragement! It went pretty well in my 2nd attempt last night also! I'm still only jumping from a trot, still not all that secure in my canter, and I imagine cantering and jumping is a different animal altogether!
Can anyone talk about that?

hi
glad to here your jumping is going well.
i find trotting or cantering into jumps is wuite easy but as i have said in a different post i find it hard to get into canter. But say i am doing a course of smll jumps ellie usually picks up canter half way through so i just let her.Its fine when youve got them going!!
Maybe to make yourself a bit more comfortable in canter while jumping why not trying cantering over largley spread out poles. Make sure the canter is steady and slow. I dont know if this will work but you could try this and when you are going over the poles squeeze with your legs. This should engourging your pony to lift her/his legs up.
hope everything goes fine

hi, these days i have to be pushed into jumping at all as its kinda scary for me, however i do canter into jumps and compared to trotting to them i find cantering to them very fast. iv been told that cantering to them is supposed to be easier and i guess it is a bit as you are sitting in the saddle rather than doing the up and down of rising trot. yesterday in my lesson i cantered into bigger jumps than i usually do and it all went smoothly until Miller decided to jump a little higher than was necessary. i wasnt expecting it and landed on his neck, just managing to cling on. i was made to do it again after that, i guess so i could end on a high note. i find the horse enjoys it as much as you do, Miller maybe enjoys it to much and wants to jump higher
so jumping from canter is good fun, but a little faster. you need a reasonably good canter seat as you have to get back to canter from landing the jump!
its good when it all comes together though :D
