Hi!--»

Ok I just.. I mean just as in 2 days ago. Got a horse:D I'm very excitied. But I need to learn to calm myself. I am expecting him to be this perfect little angel. He loves to make friends. So when I ride him he flips his head wanting to go see the other horses:rolleyes: And I'm flying everywhere! I ride english and none of my gurthes have hooks for me to put a martingale on. And it's soo annoying when he flips his head, help!

Also- I can not stay still! When I post I go BOUNCING everywhere! I have the right diagonal and everything. I think my saddle just needs to be oiled, and maybe I need to shorten my sturrups? No clue. But my friend who is a very expeirenced rider told me that I need to post from my knees, which makes no sense because I usually post from my feet and do fine. I need some lessons but right now my moms trying to work out getting me private lessons.:)

But also. How can I calm myself down? I am soo stressed because he is so stressed! He's too hyper!!! He is perfectaly fine when I'm riding him, he's calm. But when He's in his stall or on the cross ties he is very hyper and wants to GO! But, yeah I need to learn to go with the flow don't i? He's new there and he'll probably calm down.

I wouldn't try and fix his head position with a martingale (plus all martingales attach around the girth so don't need a special girth). He's very new so is understandably very excited about everything.

This would explain the head in the air, and also the bouncy trot. It's quite possible he's taking funny strides because he's so busy looking around him and not really concentrating. His behaviour when you're on the ground is also typical of a new horse.

I'd lay off the riding for a week or so and do a lot of groundwork to establish a relationship with him, and also to show him his new home and to help him relax.

Good luck with him! :D

If it's only 2 days ago that he arrived it may be worth just taking things really steady with him so he can get used to his new surroundings, try lunging, leading around yard and letting him have a good nosey about the place.

When riding him you maybe bouncing becuase your stirrups are too short try lengthing them, and don't ride too much, your friend I think is right by riding from your knee rather than your feet and standing in your stirrups (may have got wrong end of the stick here though!)

You are not going to bond stright away to your horse it takes time for you to get used to him and him to get used to you. Do alot on the ground building the relationship and bond and just spend small amounts of time riding over the next couple of weeks.

Your martingale does that come with loop at the end which the girth goes through?? Or is is different in the where you are?
