I'm new on this board so please bear with me. Brilliant lesson today!

I learnt how to ask and achieve canter with just using my seat....

Instead of bringing outside leg back and asking, just take weight to inside seat bone and Voila, canter. I couldn't believe it. Too simple for words.

I have had my new instructor for several months and she teaches in such a soft easy way everything is made very simple and things I never understood before, despite extensive reading, seem so easy for me and my boy. No pushing or pulling just great results.

He now heads up the field when he sees my car coming instead of heading off in the opposite direction!!!

He is not a natural for dressage, he's Highland x TB with the emphasis on Highland and had just hacked until I bought him and he's now 13 yrs old. His topline has altered beyond belief and looks a different horse to the one I bought.

Sorry for rambling on but I'm so pleased with my boy I just had to share.

:D

hi jannah!

you're lesson sounds amazing, as do the results you are achieving. the communication between you and your instructor, and then you and your horse, are exactly what I am striving for! Had lots of lessons with lots of good instructors who have all helped me a great deal, but still seeking the one who will be able to explain the exact workings/ins-and-outs in a down-to-earth but comprehensive way. have come across lots of people who are very talented, but trying to convey what they know and can do doesn't happen so easily so I feel like I have gaps in my understanding, which I am now doing my best to fill in! so you are very lucky to have found such a great instructor!

YAH! Well done on your lesson. Pretty much my lessons going off-n-on sometimes. Some weeks I have a wonderful lesson and then the next week I look really horrible.

Sounds fantastic. Where is your instructor? I am beginning to like dressage or pocy dressage as my instructor (male) puts it. I tell him (who events) that only people who are too stupid to be frightened do that.I haven't got the perfect horse either so I am really interested in what you are doing.

Hi Sumitra

My instructor is based in Somerset, too far for you I'm afraid. Took me ages to find her. She is very positive and gets really good results. She trained with a lot of the top German instructors and she has given me so much confidence.

I think dressage is just as thrilling as eventing. A lot of people back off when they realise how much controlled energy they are sat on...... as long as it stays controlled ;) definitely not for wimps.

I also have days when nothing goes right and others when it feels like I'm really dancing with my boy

Instructor now says dressage not poncy when he does it only when other people do it!!!!!! However he was also saying that the other day he managed some real collection on his big horse for the first time and that it was awsome.

Hi Sumitra

Awesome describes collection beautifully, it's so brilliant I could ride like that all day and have to force myself to give my boy lots of breaks and allow him to really "streeeeetch" down in trot and walk and even canter, though I'm not so keen in canter as there's absolutely nothing in front except the ground, but I'm getting used to it. My boy is only 14.3 ish but when he goes correctly feels like 16hh! I'm rambling again. Your instructor sounds a real laugh.
