I got my donkey Saturday, he's doing well. I love the sound of his bray. I haven't ridden him yet because I don't have a saddle yet (haven't gotten paid yet and still trying to pick what kind:) He's very sweet and pretty calm. He leads well and has pretty good ground manners despite not having been handled alot recently. Here is a pic, hope it works:) Any tips on working with him appreciated, he is my first equine. http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v39/savigeckolvr/don2.jpg

Well, he comes when I call him lol, which is nice cuz I remember when those lesson ponies didn't want to be caught at times:P He is an 8 year old donkey jack originally from the BLM. His mother was captured and he was born in a San Bernadino California holding pen. He is green broke and is 12 hands high I believe (I haven't measured him myself but thats what I was told and it seems about right). He's settled right in pretty much and is acting like he's been here much longer than just 3 days:) I've been told donkeys are very smart, and he fits the description. The first thing he did was to check out each boundary of his fence when we put him out, and once he did that he was content.

Aah he is soooo sweet - what is his name?

My four year old is sitting by the side of me and said to me when the pictures were loading in, that your donkey had a really happy face :D :D

Oh yes I forgot to say his name it is Don (short for Don Quixote or Don-key Quixote lol I didn't name it but he responds to Don so Don it is:) I host the pics on photobucket.com (its free) and use the IMG tag to put them on. Thanks for all the comments on the donkey too:)

Oh what a noble beastie, he reminds me of one of our horses, Magnús.
Magnús is not a Donk, he just looks like one! Noble though. Donks have a certain dignity about them you just have to admire.

I am a huge fan of donkeys - had the pleasure of caring for an elderly ex-Blackpool donkey when I was a teenager (he sadly died only 3 months after I went to university - my biggest regret ever is that his owner wouldn't release him over to the Donkey Sanctury and thus he was left in a muddy field with no shelter. The vet said his heart just gave up! :( ). Have been a regular visitor down to the Donkey Sanctuary in Devon - and will be adopting a pair from them when we have the correct facilities (need to have 24 hour access to stables/shelter).

Don is very handsome and looks in fantastic condition.
