I'm having difficulty finding somewhere to ride at the moment so I'm entertaining myself by creating freestyle tests for dressage to music. I've got the sheets showing the compulsory test movements and for novice you have to include 20m and 15m circles. Two questions:

Would leg yielding from a 20m to 15m count as two circles providing both were complete?

Is it really a good idea to include it as it may not be clear to the judge that there were two circles?

I'm just trying to be as imaginative as possible so any suggestions welcome!

hmmmm...I think it could count as two circles, but I don't know the level you are riding at and in freestyles you have a set of movements that are forbidden. Is leg yeilding forbidden? if so you might think about doing something like a 20 m circle starting at A and then when you return to A immediately start your 15 m circle or vice versa.

Ah good point, thanks IrisSilverMoon. It hadn't occured to me that leg yielding may not be allowed. I'll fish out the tests now but I think you're right - it isn't a novice move. Still, doing two consecutive circles is a good idea and a bit different. Back to the drawing board....!

Sorry - Leg yield is not permitted at Novice level, and even at elementary it would have to be ridden straight.

The 20 metre circle has to be ridden in canter, the 15 metre circle in trot.

My feeling is that it might be best to keep them separate - some judges are easily confused.;)
