I can keep my heels down properly when doing dressage if I have smaller boots and halfchaps on but when I wear my tall boots I have to force my heels down and my ankle and all me leg and stuff tenses up. I only have this problem with tall boots. Why? Maybe my tall boots aren't broken in enough or something?

Yeah, I would say that you need to wear your long boots around the house to help the material to relax around your ankle. That way it shoudl eb easier for you to put your heels down. hope this helps

yeah it sounds like your boots may be causing your legs to move but u need to try not to tense up as this may cause further problems when just riding in short boots and chaps. Try riding without stirrups in your long boots as this will help to keep your lower leg in place 9his also helps in the long run) But be careful cus i find that is some cases your boots will slip off when doing no stirrups or they feels like they are slipping up lol

Just a quick question--are your tall boots leather or rubber? Rubber boots will not break in and may be too stiff to allow you to put your heel down properly. Well broken in leather boots should be comfortable and easy to ride in.
This is an interesting article about breaking in tall boots comfortably:
