Hey! I don't know if anyone remembers me, I haven't been on this board in forever. This is Alyssa, and I used to ride Cajun - however, he's been sold and I'm consistently riding Phoenix, we're finally getting somewhere with dressage.

Anyways, I finally got my first job - down the road at a "dressage barn." Actually, it's just a dressage rider's backyard barn, but she rides Grand Prix and has some pretty cool horses. She's been really busy and needs someone to take care of the barn and horses at night.

She has two horses - a Thoroughbred and a Friesan. They're young and playful, but not aggressive. The Friesan is 17.2hh, and rather a pushy horse. He gives me a bit of trouble. :)

They are completely loose, as the barn is completely covered with sawdust and open (it's more of a large shed with stalls used only at feeding time.) After feeding them, cleaning the stalls, barn and barnyard, scrubbing their trough, giving them hay, and mixing their feed (while they chase me around) - I just spend some time hanging out with them.

It's just now I've finally gotten down cleaning everything before they freak out in their stalls and need to be let out, (which I cannot do because they'll hurt themselves with the wheelbarrow.) And when I did let them out, I'd often bring the wheelbarrow halfway to the manure pile and leave it there while I cleaned with something else, then transferred it all. It was amusing, but I'm glad I finally got the hang of things.

I'm interested in hearing about other peoples' first "horsey" jobs... so leave some funny stories and I'll read!
