I'm having real problems sitting to the canter of this one horse at the moment. I can do walk and trot (both rising and sitting) fine, but when it comes to canter I have problems. I tend to get into canter ok, but then start to slip to the side of the horse or up the neck. It only happens on Scooby, when I ride any of the others I'm fine. I've tried cantering with stirrups, without stirrups, holding on to the saddle or the mane, I've tightened the girth, and made sure my stirrups are level.

Any suggestions would be apreciated!!

Sounds like you just need to find your seat on this particular horse. Be patient, concentrate, it will come.

Either that or you don't have a good seat to begin with and you've just been lucky on the other horses.

Really only you can be the judge of that. How long have you been riding? Have you taken riding lessons on HOW to ride? Lots of people that are ABLE to ride do fine on a nicely gaited horse, but are all over the place on a bit rougher mount, simply because they have not learned HOW to ride and develop a well balanced seat.

Once you assess that, you'll be able to solve your problem.

If you know HOW to ride, then don't worry, you'll find your "sweet spot" on this horse too. Just give it time, be patient, and, most of all be consistent with your cues. Ride the horse NOT the saddle, your seat NOT your feet.

Good Luck to you!
