Hi all

I think that Tango has Thrush. She is very tender by the frog and doesn't want to put any weight on this leg is she can help it. The owner of the rescue looked at it and said it was Thrush and is treating with homeopathic remedies she has used on some of the other horses who have suffered with it recently at the rescue.

The fields at the rescue are so boggy and muddy that a few of the horses have become foot sore.

I wanted to hear more about the antibiotic spray that Mossy spoke about in a recent thread. Does it have a specific name and where is it available, and what other treatments there are?

I have used previous tips I have read here regarding mud fever and use the vaseline as a barrier which is having effect, so thanks for that one.

To give thrush the old heave ho! scrub the frog and sole with a strong bleach solution, it's cheap and effective!

There is also a product called CopperTox that is great for Thrush. Definitely scrub the sole and frog with bleach and then use the CopperTox to help take out the thrush. Is there a foul smell coming from the feet in question? If so, it is thrush for sure. If not, there may be an abscess in this particular horse, but from the condition of the facility, thrush sounds like the most likely culprit. Happy Trails!

Wally has the right idea- and the cheapest as well. Just make sure the bleach solution is not too strong. If the fields are really muddy, you might want to consider not turning your horse out for a little while until her hooves starts to improve.

Cheers. I will try the bleach solution, will this be painful for her whilst her foot is so tender...I mean the scrubbing part. I don't think she will actually let me scrub any part of her frog or sole at the moment, unless it has improved with the treatment the Rescue owner has been putting on it. I will see tomorrow.

Unfortunately, all the horses are out 24/7 so we only have the use of field shelters...no nice warm stables...have to wait for the all elusive lottery win for that one.

I will let you know how she gets on.

Thanks again all.
