Is there anywhere that holds details of farriers, like a registery like for riding school etc. Or anybody know of any farrier in Gloucestershire that would cover Ross on Wye area??
My farrier has disappeared of the face of the earth! He never turned up when he was suppose to last week. So I phoned and got no answer. Phoned and left a message, not being horrible, just that I hoped everything was ok and could he atleast just give me a call and let me know whats happening. Still heard absolutley nothing from him. I've had him the whole time I've had my own horses but I'm getting a bit annoyed with him lately he's always atleast an hour late sometime even two, three, four or more! Once off is fine but not as a regular thing. I kind of like he takes me for granted because I've had him so long he just think I'll put up with it.And he's hardly cheap! I pay £79 for shoes and vins trim! And this is very expensive for our area, or atleast compared to all my friends it is. I've asked about friends farriers but none of them are taking on anybody knew and their too full and the only ones that are, one I would never have as I've seen his work and the state of the horses feet is appaling and the other is well known for taking 2-3 hours to put on a pair of shoes as he needs a fag break every 10minutes and if the horse so much a breaths to deeply they get a rasp in their ribs. Flytes feet are looking awful, so overgrown and his shoes are barely hanging on! I cut my hand on one of his clenches tonight, thats how risen they are:eek: His feet are bad enough as it is let alone if they have to go over due! And Vins got the start of a crack in one of his feet. If he had them trimmed it would be cut off its that small but if their left its going to contiue to crack! I've looked in the phone books but NONE advertising cover my area!! Any suggestions would be great as I'm really desperate!!! Torx

Lol glad I could be of some help! Sorry the post was so brief I was on the phone at the time!:D

If your really unhappy with your previous farrier you should think about putting in a complaint. After all your paying for a service! Dont think my customers would be very happy if I turned up at the shop 3 hrs late to open up with no warning or valid reason!!

This unfortunately seems to be the farriers rule though. I'm lucky now as Molly gets done by the farrier who comes to the yard every week, but its a big yard and he does 10 horses at a time. But previously I had a hells own job getting one as I was new to horse owning. Is it too much to ask that a farrier a) turns up on time/at all and b) doesn't beat the living daylights out of your horse?

In my half hearted attempts at changing careers, I've looked into farrier training - they have to do soemthing like 4 years apprenticeship, pay a fortune for the training and receive very little wage in return. Is it any wonder that good ones are a rare breed.

I really feel that we as a horse owning public need to start shouting to the Farriers registration council:mad:
