hi, when I practice my tests at home my horse is great and is really responsive to my aids. BUT, when i get out into competion, only the dressage phse, i get really nervous and tense. i know that when i get tense my horse does to but i still cant get it together in the test. i have a great warm-up before but when i set foot in the arena Jb ignores me a bit. i was wondering if anyone else had the same problem and what they do to fix it. any response would be greatly appreciated.:)

i used to be like that when i did dressage on my pony. i used to get more nervous about dressage than i did about jumping.
just close your eyes as you go in, take a deep breath and imagine that you are at your own yard, practicing in the school and there is no one else there.

I highly recommend reading Jane Savoie's book "That Winning Feeling" for help in dealing with nerves during showing. She has some great and very easy-to-use advice that can help you to deal with show nerves.

I havent showed in dressage yet, only jumping....but i get nervous too, it feels like im going to be sick and my stomache is floppin all over! There isnt a whole lot you can do, but just go out there and have fun. its not about going for the blue, or winning any ribbons, its a learning experience and having fun :) Even if you dont win...you know you and your horse can do it, thats all that really matters!.

Dressage is nice because you get to stop for a second before having to start your test.

When you halt at X take a really deep breath and salute very slowly so you can collect yourself a bit before you have to start. You don't want to rush into the test, and the salute is a good staller...LOL. It looks really elegant if you take your time too!
