Parelli is natural horsemanship run by a man and his family called pat parelli!
They basically believe that you need a complete bond with your horse from the ground before you can rider your horse. So they teach people how to bond with their horse and this is usually helpful with horse who have had problems due to previous cruel treatment or after a traumatic accident.

I've personally never done parelli but over the holidays i'm hoping to do natural horsemanship by a different family name - as they are holding clinics at the college i go to!

I cant wait because as me and my horse already have kind of a special bond - i would like for her to trust me a bit more so we can work together easier!

oooooooh it sounds really interesing....if i had a horse i would love to look into it further. but is it similar to join up??coz i did loads of that with a pony i used to loan/share when i was at boarding school as she used to tank off and was really strrong when jumping...so did the join up thing...which i found really helpful just in general with her!

Parelli is based on the same ideas - that you need to relate to the horse in a way THEY understand - so there are similarities.

But what Parelli does is use some principles, which he explains through the "seven games" and then extends them into everything and anything you do with your horse. Its a progressive programme.

I've done a little bit, but haven't got round to formalising it into my Level 1 assessment... no excuse, just need to get round to it

edit: and yes, have been on a 1 day course a few years back (with Ross Simpson before he went his own way). Would like to do one with current horse but am lacking time, money etc. :(

I have been to watch level 1/2/3 courses. I can't take my boys because they are entires, so I have to have private lessons with them. I am hoping to do my level 1 and most of level 2 before I start going on courses, by which time I should have my mare back that Inglea Sainsbury has for training so I can take her. If you can find the money to go on a course they are very worthwhile and I haven't met anyone yet who didn't think that it was money well spent.

Trouble is I don't have the money to spend especially as I am thinking of replacing my Laptop and getting a new one.

I need a windfall.....

I did a level I two day course four/five years ago. it was amazing. Haven't actually achieved my level1 yet as went off the boil. Now they have county co-ordinators who enable members in the area to meet and play together, am hoping this will give me that bit of extra support I lacked before. I felt it was very difficult to do entirely on my own and obviously wasn't putting enough energy into it as nag got bored. L

I've done a 5 day course with another natural group (not parelli). Was great, and managed to pass my level one while I was there :D
