My horse is 9 yrs old, she is beautiful and very well behaved. we do eventing (dressage, hunter/jumper, i havent decided yet, and x-country) she LOVES LOVES jumping. before we got her (January) she was in a C-2 riding level dressage. i am not that high and she knows way more than i do. my fear is, once i get up into a higher level dressage, she wont remember the stuff she learned before we got her 'cause we havent used them in a while. Is it possible she will forget how to do them? Should i pay my instructor to get on and ride her once in a while to remind her of these things? i dont know what to do about it! Please help!!!!
Here is a picture of my horse, isnt she beautiful??? lol

she won't forget how to do things, but she may lose muscle that will have to be rebuilt later on when you get to that point. so you just have to worry about whether or not you care if she loses a little condition, not whether or not she'll forget. It may be worth it to pay your instructor to ride once a week to keep your mare conditioned...:) good luck!
forgive me, but what is C2 level dressage? I'm only familiar with the standard US, intro, training, first, second, third, fourth and so on levels. So I'm also unsure of what she can do and what you can't, which may help too...:)

Hi
You're very lucky to have a schoolmaster :D
As IrisSilverMoon said, she won't forget and it just gives you something extra special to work towards :D
Getting your instructor to keep her ticking over now and then is a good idea.
All the best

Thanx for your help, she is actually starting to build more muscle cause we do alot of trot and canter work, so im not TO worried about her loosing muscles, but i will get right on having my instructor ride her! i just needed a 2nd opinion
C2 dressage is just like upper level i forgot the order but i think its:
Intro
Training level (where i am)
C-1
C-2
C-3
then there is 2 more higher ones, i forgot the name. Thats just how it goes here (in wisconsin) i dont know if thats all around or w/e but thats what i was talking about when i said C-2

I've never heard of C-1, etc., referring specifically to dressage. Do you mean a pony club rating?

its odd that wisconsin is different from other states, especially since they are (obviously) included in the USDF regions and if you qualify for regionals you would be competing against people from other states. Is this USDF dressage or something else specifically for wisconsin?
what sort of movements does C-2 level ask for? is it like the regular second level tests with counter canter, shoulder in, haunches in, turn ont eh haunches etc? or do they have other stuff that is required?

I dont know what the c-2 level asks for!!!! I've never heard of it before i got her. all her previous owners said she was rated in c-3 at dressage...i asked if she was in pony club they said she was never in pony club...they told me about it, i dont member what it was called Like MS with more letters, i forgot them...but they told me they ride dressage but they use the same ratings as pony club. She could probably be in a c-3 level in pony club...but i didnt know it wasnt local, its not like an official thing i guess? i dont know much about it....just what i was told.

hehe...how odd then! I have heard of the PC ratings, but never for a dressage thing.
