Ok folks, here is a question for ya. I just bought some stuff called Satin Finish. It is a rice bran with other stuff added to shine up the horse's coat. I am going to mix it with corn oil. Here is my question: On the bag it says to feed 2 pounds per day. I have a 2 quart bucket that I give grain in. Any guess as to how many bucketfulls would equal approxamately 2 pounds? Also, how much corn oil should I use? Ash has dropped a bit of weight since we started working her harder.

You'd probabaly be best using a set of scales to measure out the feed - I wouldn't make guesses.
Start off with a tablespoon of oil and go from there. I know some people who feed anything up to 2pints of soya oil a day to give extra energy without bulk.

If Ash is dropping weight I'd get a nutritionist to look over her diet (not a quack, someone qualified). Wouldn't just add supplementary items as it may be a more basic problem.

get your scales out and weigh it, then what I do is either find a scoop that it fits into, or put a mark on the scoop so from then on you don't need to weigh it out each time.

Can't help you with the oil, but one thing I would do is introduce it gradually to feeds and work up to the amount she should have, this will let her get used to a different taste and if she has any sort of reaction to it, you haven't given her alot and any reaction (if any) would be mild.

Well I don't think that there is anything nutritionally wrong. She's as healthy as a, well, a horse. It is just that we have started working her a lot harder and I think she needs more calories.
Anyway, the barn owner had a scale today so I got everything measured out. Thanks for the input everyone!
