hey,
i had my first lesson this past Monday. I really liked it. lol. i tried to get my mom to let me do it twice a week instead of once. :thought better of that after trying to walk. lol. my legs are still incredibly sore: everything went good during the lesson and i really like my instructor. i didn't have riding boots on so my foot kept slipping out which was the only thing i wasn't too happy about. I'm getting new boots this week. We did grooming and tacking first, then walked the horse out to where we rode. First I walked and then trotted and learned how to post and all and she kept asking if i was sure if i had ridden english before. She also said i was moving along faster than she'd expected, which i'm happy about. I have my next lesson next Monday so i'll tell you how that goes. well. ttyl

that's wonderful! It'll get easier once you start riding more consistently. I ride almost everyday in the summer and I'm not sore a single bit. A warm bath will help. ;)

Glad you had such a good lesson! Congrats! :)

My first lesson. The instructor was not the best in hindsight (I moved on to a new school). But I fell in love with riding right away. :)

Well done! The soreness will go away the more you ride. :)

Well done! It sounds like your first lesson far surpassed mine. I had my first at 28 or 29 years old, having ridden casually on and off before. In my first lesson, I couldn't get my horse to go forward. She kept turning in and walking to the instructor.

It didn't dishearten me though. I was thrilled to just be around the horse and had every intention of sticking with it and improving.

Sounds like your first lesson was great! A hot bath after your lesson will help with that soreness, i'd wait a few weeks beofre you start riding twice a week!

The lesson sounds really good, especially because you started of with takcing up and grooming, my first lesson i was put ont he horse and led round, then again i was only little.

i hope you continue having fun :)

Thats great!

I dont really remember my first lesson. I think i just walked and trotted once, it was £40 a LESSON!!!! so i only managed to go once EVERY 6 WEEKS!!!!! but then i changed stables and now go once twice a week lol and i am loaning a horse now called Strida. He is a haflinger. I had been riding for about a year when i was much much younger but had to stop because of school arrangements. Then when i went to High School I wanted to pick it up again but didnt do anything for about 2 years (well rather my parents didnt do anything) and then last year i MADE my mum book me a lesson but i only got to go about once every 2 weeks and it was £40 just for a 1/2 lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then when school started again i only went once in the holidays (possibly twice if i was lucky) but my mum new someone who had a sister in law who owned horses and taught people as well so 6 months later (took a while i know!) i had my first lesson with angela on Strida, the horse i am now loaning, and went there every other week for about a month then increased it to once a week and now since i have started loaning Strida i go down there twice a week in term time (possibly one towards christmas) and then lots more in the hols.

Sounds like you lesson went really really well. Hope you enjoy riding even more as you progress!!!!!!!!:):):):):). My legs ached for DAYS on end after my first lesson! Yours will stop hurting the more you ride because its to do with the muscles you use cos u use different ones for riding so as you are going regularly they should stop hurting withing a month or two (maybe less). And also when you start to cover new things (i remember when i did jumping position - i felt incrediably stupid with my bum stiking out lol- i couldnt physically get OF the horse my legs hurt SOOOOO much! lol but that went away withing 3 days.
Keep up the good work and let us know how it goes.
