Sarcoids are thought to be non-spreading, tumours of the skin. At first they look like a wart, but as they grow the skin covering the sarcoid becomes thin and breaks, causing an ulcer to develop.
They can occur anywhere on the body.
Sarcoids can sometimes disappear themselves or if need be, the easiest way of removal is through surgery, however, 50% of sarcoids come back after this treatment.
Other treatments include freezing the tumour, Radiation, BCG vaccine, specialist creams madeup for the individual, and simple cutting off the blood supply of the tumour with an elastic band type aid.
Hope this helps!

Most peoplewould advise to steer clear of buying a horse with sarcoids as they can be an ongoing problem which never goes away, as well as being unsightly.
My friend bought a horse with a few sarcoids, one in particular getting really bad. She has spent thousands on getting it treated, along with surgery etc, each time it coming back. However, although she sometimes has regrets she would never part with him.
I guess it is down to how much you like this horse and if your willing to take the risk.
Also i dont think a vet will pass a horse with sarcoids, so dont know if that would affect your insurance. However i could be wrong.
