Just wondered if anyone could tell me what type of horse would do well in a hunter class - in the UK this is. Is there a particular build that is suitable? Could you enter a cob or does the horse have to be finer bred?

Also, am I right in thinking that Working Hunter classes involve natural jumps, while Hunter show classes don't involve jumping? I've done some working hunters that all involved jumps, but can plain Hunter classes have them too?

Hopefully I don't seem too stupid - its just showing is an area that I've never participated in and it baffles me. I'm only starting to think of it now cos a friend of mine is starting to show her horse. Any info on these topics would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jenny

hunters are normally big - but not cobs. they're stockier than riding horsees, but bigger and more elegant than cobs.
http://www.theshowring.co.uk/show_hunter.html

is a useful page with illustrations of hunters.

yes, working hunter involved a course of natural jumps, and hunter or show hunter is a flat class.
