Well dispite the weather, today was a good day!;)

I had a RA out to work with me and Podge regarding the clipping issue!! I was alittle (or maybe alot) nervous of what was going to happen and what Podge would do!!

But Srah was fantastic and Podge was such a good boy, he was very well mannered and Sarah was very patient with him;)

By the end of the session (1 1/4 hours) he was accepting the trimmers anywhere and everywhere, and towards the end was a little naughty but through bordem of having to stand still in a stable rather than naughty through not liking the clippers!;)

When we turned him back out , he trotted off to the waiting Minnie to tell her what he has had to go through!!:o :D

I would recommend anyone to get a good RA out , she has certainly pointed me in the right direction to getting Podge and clippers to be best friends!!:D

So glad you enjoyed it, and that it worked so well! Sarah is fab isn't she! She cam e out to me after seeing you & Podge and I got a little lecture on loading and how I can do it myself now :D She's right, just need to sort out a dually to use first.

Really glad it went well :D I don't know what Flora will make of clippers yet (she was not a fan of the spray on the hose at first and still eyes it a bit with suspicion). What is an RA?

A Monty Roberts Recommended Associate, they go through a pretty rigorous training programme and are able to come to you and your horse and offer assistance with common problems. The approach is generally the same, pressure and release / approach and retreat.
I went along this afternoon to watch and learn, it's the second time I've seen Sarah Dent at work, and again I was very impressed by what she did and her manner with the horse. I would recommend her or one of her colleagues to anyone with a handing or behavioural problem, this stuff really works. At the start of the session he wanted to run off when he heard them 20 feet away, by the end of it it was oh so boring to be in the stable and could he please go back out and play:)

As the owner of a fairly quiet pair of clippers it looks like I'll be putting the effectiveness of Podge's training to the test very soon:D

Bebe, she was as good as you and yann said;)

Stella2, well worth seeing Floras reaction to clippers now, while you can do something about a bad reaction without it being a nessesity to get her clipped, or call Patsy and see if she tried!;)

Yann, again thanks for coming and being ok about being roped into helping me see the results:)

I thought it was really funny though as Podge never moves away from the gate when i turn him out normally, but when we had finsihed he really did trot off to Min with conviction;)

Sounds brilliant! I had a RA out to my ex-racer who refushed point blank to go in a box. He'd had a bad experience in starting gates which probably didn't help and I never knew much about his past but he never loaded before I bought him, I hacked him home. He would throw himself on the floor over loading in the trailer. He hated men aswell. So after about 2 hours of Adam working to get him happy with him being around him and then an hour of join up we put the back of the trailer down and he walked straight in. He then took his head collar off and walked in and he just followed. I'd had him two years and never so much as got one foot on the ramp. We never ever had loading problems again after that. He's now a hunter and she tacks him up in his stable. Goes and opens up the trailer, goes back and opens his stable door and he loads himself in the trailer. Its pretty amazing and if I ever had problems with anyhing he'd be the first person I'd go two. I know two people who had him out for clipping and they both now clip like angels.
Would definetley recommend an RA.

I got an RA out, when Katie was being a bargey madam. Kate Reece we got out and she was excellent. She also recently gave me lots of advic over the phone when Katie was a madam for the farrier.

I got a Dually before out first visit from Kate and we have used it every day since, it is great.

Bebe, I got mine from Robinsons, it was actually cheaper than buying it through the Monty Roberts site.

Glad you had such a successful day. I've had an RA (Sue Brown)out twice to help me. I'd recommend her to anyone.
Bebe, I got my dually from www.cotswoldsport.co.uk for £30+p&p.

Blossom & Cobby, thanks for the tips on where to get Duallys from, I've written them down so I won't forget.
