i just started riding not long ago. i ride at two different places due to the limited time slots at my usual pony club. both places teach totally different things. one is teaching me to canter already and the other is focusing on my trot. i go weekly to the pony club that is focusing on my trot and monthly to the club that is teaching me to canter. learning at different places, will this somehow affect my riding skills?

I've done it before when I needed different things from different instructors, and it's worked out well for me.
Of course, be up front with each instructor. You may find discrepancies in what they teach. Sometimes, this is just a matter of focusing on different problems, sometimes it comes down to a stylistic difference, and sometimes it comes down to differences in the horses you are riding. I have found, however, that it's best to just do what I'm asked at the time and reserve questions for later.

I know a girl that goes to my barn that also rides at another place. She seems to get along fine at both.. I think it may have it's upsides because you get so much more exposure to different styles of teaching.. As long as you can adapt to it you'll be fine!
