Farmer has changed his mind about me doing up the other barn for a stable:( Which is a shame as it already had proper stables, just needed doing up. But, he doesn't think the roof is safe, and doesn't have the time, money or strength to get it fixed (elderly retired farmer) Anyway, was walking Dolly past today and he suggested another small building that I could have instead. Everything has pros and cons eh?;) This one is right next to the field, so very convenient, and sham will be able to see his mates when he is in (The barn was right up the track and he wouldnt have been able to see another horse) its has electric and lighting and is near a tap (The barn had no lights anywhere near, i dreaded the nights up there in the winter with three kids in tow). But, this other *building* isn't a stable as such, although he said there used to be some in there. It has a one piece door, so will need to fix that, and what looks like a glass wondow from a distance. I know there is a light in there, but havent been able to look yet to see if it is horse safe. If not, what is the best idea for making it so? a flat halogen type light with a cage over the top? And the other thing is, it has a dirt floor, although again I havent seen it yet. Will I need to concrete this or can it be used as it is?Has anyone ever had a dirt floor? What are the pros and cons? Is it better for drainage, does it get soggy and nasty? Is it totally inappropriate?:( Any advice appreciated!:)
