View Full Version : how long to grow mane

My horse has just had her mane pulled - it was thick and quite long and yard owner suggested it was pulled because of hot weather etc, but I really hate how it looks - before it was thick, glossy and long now because of how thick it was it stands up in spikes all along, I've plaited it and wetted it down to try to bring it down but it has a life of its own and as soon as the plaits are out it stands upright along her neck - how long does it take to grow? It was a big mistake and I'll never have it pulled again.

There must be another way of tidying up her mane without going to these measures - it was one of her best features and now it looks a mess! Sorry for moaning but it does!

you're right, long manes look better on some horses more than others. I'm not sure how long it will take to grow back, but if it was pulled correctly, the mane should be thinner too?

If she's a cobby type, such as a welsh cob, friesan (they look super with long wavy manes!) then it could be good to just leave it, ask around for opinions.

due to sweet itch problems, my pony has a bit of a wonky mohikan now

according to previous owner, she was hogged last summer as well, and by may the following year it had grown back nicely :)
