Well the truth is that riding is a dangerous sport just like all other sports, the only difference is that you are working with an animal that weighs 1,000 pounds or more!!! The chances are that if you ride consistently then you will fall off or get bucked off but if you take the proper safety precautions then you should be fine.

Hi midnight,

I understand where yer comin from. In January of 2003, I was riding a TB named Zeus and i went to canter him, and he took off and i took a nasty fall. I went bac the next week though and had a fun lesson on my ol' bud Eric. Then, last fall, i was very confident and was loping around and around. ( i had switched to western) Then, the horse i was riding was cooped up in his stall during winter because of ice. When i got him out to ride, i didnt lunge him. Boy am I smart. Well, I was jus tryin to get him to jog and he turned to the center of the arena and started buckin lik a bronc!! But i stayed on and then my instructor had me get down and he lunged him. I got bac on that same lesson night, and he was fine.

Im still a bit nervous about loping/cantering after the bucking incedent. But i kno im gonna fall and that is all part of building confidence, if u fall and get bac on, your building confidence. If yer worried about falling, jus remember to sit bac and keep yer heels down, it works. And a horse can sense when yer tense so just relax and tak deep breaths. It helps me a lot. Good luck and don't be afraid. Jus lik T-Bred said," Riding is a dangerous sport jus lik all other sports". Jus try and keep trying. Thats all i can say.

I'd be horrified if any of my lot bucked, If they did if woulod be for a very good reason.

Not all horses buck, some are predisposed to it, some have such horrible tack that they have every right to buck.

What has made you so scared of a horse bucking with you, is it something that happens a lot where you ride?

ahh yes i most definetly know what it si like to be bucked off... previose experience (as you can see if u look at my thread "help... im afriad to ride agian") my aunts horse bucked me off and i had a nasty fall... but to think about it... i was smiling the whole time (till i fell) i had people cheering me on the side of the rode and every thing... it was fun... but word of advice... DO BE CAREFUL.... take deep breatsh relax your position (but dont be a slouch and dont be to stiff) and dont do any thing your not ready to... who knows maybe youwill be the next champion that all the kids want to be like!

Try it you might like it!
