Hi there,

I am looking for somewhere in the Sheffield area to go riding with a couple of friends. My friends have never ridden before, so I'm looking for somewhere we could go for a "slow-paced" hack (walking and maybe some trotting). Do you know of a suitable place?

Cheers,

Mello

Sheffield itself isn't greatly blessed with places to go for hacks as far as I'm aware, the places I know of tend to be a bit further out into the peak district. However there is a place that's just opened near us, called Moss Valley Rides, at Coal Aston, might be worth a try and I can certainly vouch for the scenery, the hacking is all off road. Their number is 0114 255 7868.

Not sure if they're still running but I used to go for hacks at Smallage Farm in Aughton (near Treeton). It was pretty cheap and cheerful but the horses lived out all year and were happy. Rides were usually through Treeton woods, quite pretty, and were tailored to suit the group. You could also pick 1 or 2 hour rides, in the summer holidays they did half day picnic rides too.

Phone no should be in yellow pages if they're still running.
