hello!
I know that ther is no sure fire way to avoid arthritis, but I feel my horse may be at risk - she is currently 8yo and recovering from a joint operation and a broken foot. I was under the impression that with people, damaged joints and breaks were often prone to arthritis in later life.
So, my question is, what can you do to try to prevent arthritis setting in, or at least reduce the risks? Anyone got any top tips?
bye!

Might be worth starting her on cortaflex or similar, or invest in a pair of magnetic boots for her to wear at nights. Magnotherapy will help speed healing, and reduce pain.

Intouch, do you know if the magnets have to be applied to the damaged area, or is just having them on the body good enough? I guess for the broken pedal bone, a magnetic bracelet would do the trick if they have to be on or near the damaged bit, but getting something to stay on her stifle could be tricky!
Thanks again for your help, you really are an invaluable source of knowledge for this board!
bye!

I always thought the magnets had to be on the actual spot, so they can get the proper, er, "vibes" if you will to the right spot.

Because the magnets act by conditioning the blood - it seems the mollecules in the blood are realligned so it can remove toxins and carry oxygen more efficiently - the boots worn in the normal position will be effective. My mare is just recovering from damage to the muscle on the inside of her thigh, and has been wearing the boots every night, she is sound now and beginning to bounce again! Should warn you, they do have an energising effect on some horses!
You can get wraps that can be worn on the legs or attached to a rug if there is a back injury, direct application can have a beneficial effect too, but I would want to get to the root of that sort of injury before using magnets.
I really enjoy the site, feel deprived if I miss my nightly fix! Glad if I can help.

hello!
Thanks for your help Intouch. IS there much difference between the various magnetic boots on the market, some give magnet strenght, etc. Is a strong magent better, or is it like homeopathy where a weaker thing can be a lot better. I am totally out of my depth here!
I shall have a look into some magnetic products, apart from anything, they are a lot cheaper than cortaflex in the long term!
bye!

Up to a point a stronger magnet will be more effective. I use Bioflow, I've looked at several other products and not found any better. Have a look at their website, http://www.ecoflowproducts.com, and if you want any more info you could e-mail me.

How about trying a supple joint supplement of some kind? MSM or something?
