I live in NH USA and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of 'Beginner Canter' classes before? I entered 3 beginner Canter classes along with two 'Beginner Canter over fences' I am going to a show this coming Sunday and I was wondering if anyone could give me the low down on this. I have never heard of it before!

No, I've never heard of it, but it sounds like something that is unique to the barn that is putting on the show (or at least, unique to the local circuit). Your best bet is to ask your instructor, if she is familiar with the show, or call the person listed as a contact (e.g., the show secretary) if it's not at your barn.

Just taking a WILD guess here... :)

Maybe it's for riders who are too advanced for trotting over fences but not yet ready for the 2'3" novice classes? Like, maybe beginner canter is cantering over X's or 2' or less verticals?

Just a guess, we don't have "beginner canter" classes on my circuits. :) Good luck though!

I went to the show 3 days ago and I was entered in these classes. The 'Beginner Canter' was like a Walk, Trot, Canter class only they asked for the Canter from the trot and they were a lot lighter on the points and stuff. In 'Beginner Canter over fences' it is like Cantering over fences classes except they don't take off points for your horse breaking from Canter to trot and they are a lot easier on the point system. Thanks for atleast trying to help me but now I know what they are from expirence.

Glad you reported back, I was curious.

How did it go, anyway? Did you have a good time?

It went great in my Begginer canter class i got 1st, 2nd, and 4th. In begginer canter over fences I got 1st, 1st, and 3rd. I had so much fun! Prince Captian (my horse) is such a show off he is like a different horse when people are watching. Everyone laughed at his show name it's 'Captian Fuzzy Man' I think he had a lot of fun too! Sorry if it seemed like I was bragging! I didn't mean too.

Great job!!!! You don't have to apologize for sharing your joy. You should be proud of yourself! I, for one, love hearing about people's successes.
