Hello all,

This is my first foray into this part of the web site. After taking lessons at jumping-focused schools for about 1 1/2 years, I decided that jumping just did not do it for me. I enjoy flatwork more. Hence, I found a good dressage school/instructor and started lessons about 2 months ago.

I would like to buy a good book that covers the basics of dressage - not too advanced in themes as I am at the beginner levels of this discipline. Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I like:

Cross-Train Your Horse by Jane Savoie

Book One
Simple Dressage for Every Horse, Every Sport

And there's a second book called "More Cross-Training"

I bought them a couple of years ago when I had an instructor who was using a lot of terminology I didn't understand. I was the least experienced rider in the group, so I didn't like to slow things for the others by asking her to review "basics."

Common Sense Dressage by Sally O'Connor.
Dressage Essentials by Jane Kidd.
Down to Earth Dressage by Carl Hester.

All are very good books and user friendly.:)

Dressage in Harmony by Walter Zettl - also known as WAZ on some of the other web sites, the book is a MUST read. It starts with the basics and works up.

Dressage Formula by Eric Herbermann, is also written in a clear and easy to read format.
