Well, I went to my lesson with my horse tonight, but unfortunatly he turned up lame after the first few minutes, so I had to put him away. I was determined not to miss the lesson, so I took out one of the school horses and wow, this lesson was weird!! I don't know whether to be happy or mad. He goes on the bit so easily, and I got him to go on it, but his trot is so fast and his conformation is so much more different from my horse's (quarter horse vs. arabian), that it made riding him even more irritating. He's so thin and short, that when I mounted, I almost flipped over the other side (!), because I'm used to getting on a high, broad-backed horse!
I Don't Know What To Think??
Just Thought I'd Tell.

Maci, sorry your horse is lame. However, your story made me think that riding other horses is something we should all do more frequently. Your story seems to tell us something important: It seems to tell us to appreciate what we have and what we haven't in terms of our own treasured horses (their particular problems) and in terms of how far we've got. I think that sometimes we keep blaming ourselves and then concentrating on our technique when just sometimes it's the horse!!!

One cannot blame the horse for being different to what you are used to!! It is up to you to adapt to his way of going and correct the things that make him difficult to ride. You can make a horse trot slower so he is easier to sit to. Having said this, I have certain horses that I don't like to ride because they are hard work to sit to and not as comfortable as some of the others.

Yes, it's true, I'm so used to my horse and the way he ride's, that riding a new horse is like a wake of reality, so to speak. Every rider has to be an "all-around rider". I rode him (new horse) again today, and he was better at trot, probably because I was more relaxed, than last night. All I can say is that, he has a GREAT, fast canter!

PS- My horse is walking alot better now, but we'll give him a few days relaxation!

Hey Maci!
I have a Standardbred that has NO neck or shoulders!!!!!! it is a differant ride at first untill you learn how to adapt to it! I don't even notice the differance untill i jump on a huge TB that has a big neck and then i look down at my horse and go WOW!!!!!!! I hope your horse is feeling better and you should ride more horses because riding more horses makes you a better rider :)
Happy Trails
