I had a go at doing dressage plaits on Merry today. any way they aren't verry good because his maine is so thick and he doesn't like it being pulled, anyway what fo you think?? are they good enought to do out first prelim (tuesdady after next) or sould i just leave him unplated. i do like plaiting him up though.

anyway here are pics, what do you think??

and one last one to show you what they look like from a distance. (his coat is looking a bit dull today after his traumatic ecperiance in the tralier yesterday, but he doesn't allways look that bad, honest)

They're pretty good plaits - but what sort of horse is he? It's a bit hard to see in your photo, but I think those white-band plaits only really suit big warmbloods, rather than cobby and pony types.

I used to compete in prelim dressage on my cob unplaited, and I wore tweed jacket beige jodhs, brown girth and brown numnah. Trying to look honest and workmanlike, rather than pretending to be a dressage horse.

I think he looks gorgeous! And your plaiting is far better than mine! I think you should definetley plait him up like this for the dressage. Would you like to come plait Flyte for his dressage Saturday? :D
What happened in the trailer:eek: (you don't have to say)? Is he ok??

I agree with LindaAD, I much prefer to see plain plaits with the same coloured thread or rubber bands as the mane rather than white tape as IMHO it looks a bit - dare I say tacky - and a bit out of place on anything other than a WB type, especially at low level local competitions. But at the end of the day, it's personal choice and your actual plaits look good. The best of luck!

I'm going in the same thoughts as Linda and Torie.

They look good but if you plaited more down so they lay on the side rather than upright, might look a bit more proffessional. Also a few less would look better.

But what ever you tlike best is all that matters. Good luck with the test.

Don't show dressage so much anymore and IMO.... I would do him just like you have him...I don't think that they do have to be a big WB to have them BECAUSE they aren't they only one's who can do dressage well, even if it is at a low level. Not saying anything bad about them as I have and love big WB's to death, but I also know from my own experience that little horses can excel too! lol just cuz he may not make it to the GP ring [giggle] doesn't mean he can't look nice and tidy in the ring. I have a little morgan mare 14.2 hh that does 2nd level (and going up) dressage and level 4 jumpers. GO CELTI!!! lol ..... I say go for it, your little guy is adorable!

I agree with the others, I would plait but lose the white tape :)

No-one's saying that only warmbloods can do dressage, blueequestrian - I'd be the first to argue with that.

It's just that some people think only warmbloods look right in those white plaits - which are a German tradition, not an English one.

And I agree, merry_legs' little guy is adorable!

you plaits look really good. I dont see why you cant tape your plaits for your show just cut the tape in half so its not as wide I think it would kind of 'adapt' it to his cute little pony frame. good luck and let us know how u do
