Has any one read Dancing with Horses?

Its a book by Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling, he is Spanish.

Its really interesting, all about getting your horses respect and I suppose a bit like Parelli using what the horse does naturaly.

The first thing you have to do is lead your horse from in front, always looking at him. It progresses through free lunging, lunging and then on to riding.

The books main aim is to get collection without any reins or tack at all. When you lunge you walk a circle and show the horse what to do eg you have to kind of do a big step and half crouch to halt, this gets the horse to step under himself.

I've been trying some of it with Drummer and it works! I'm not going for the whole free riding thing but I have been using NH to get Drummers respect and build a better relationship with him so that he is more responsive and happy.

I have it, I think it's a gorgeous book. :) Very inspiring.

However, I haven't tried very much at all with Charlie; I only have him on part-loan, and it seems to me that you'd have to be quite consistent with it, which would be quite difficult. It's something I'd like to try more in-depth if/when I get my own horse, though.

I keep reading bits over and over. I think the dog thinks I've gone mad, when I'm walking him I practice my halts!!
