An observation- hurt right Achilles two weeks ago in stupid household accident and have been on ground since then. When you cant get out of the way fast if your ned barges/broadsides you, you have no option but to do some SERIOUS work on them respecting your space. Dont have a Parrelli stick yet, but a Walking stick is almost as effective! Sometimes these things happen for the best dont they?

Went to a fabulous NH demo yesterday near Tunridge Wells with an Aussie Cowboy called Steve, he really showed how 'high energy' and 'low energy' used around your horse pretty much tells them most of what they need to know --he demo'd how waving a ground stick around and hitting the floor with low personal energy did not make the horse react at all, then dropped the stick and made the horse move with just his body in high energy.
The thing that stuck in my head was his intention when making a horse move out of his space was totally commited. He said he is saying to the horse "When I get over there, you'd better have moved!" He described his demenour as that of a human electric fence, which the horse did NOT want to stick its nose on.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I was at that too! :D only briefly, I mainly went to see Moo as she's there for training at the moment.

The man doing the demo is exceedingly good isn't he.

Hi 'hackedoff'
Was it a Steve Halfpenny demo?
I think he's a great teacher of NH. He's in Ruthin at the end of this month and well worth watching if you live in the area.

could it have been Steve Brady?
Brady is a great NH horseman here in OZ

So how did he do it - raise his energy.
This is a problem I have, I am too placid and have to really work on getting 'my life up'.

Sorry for late reply bloggs- well 'high energy' is making your body language bigger and kind of acting as if you want to be noticed, does that make sense? Like trying to get served at a busy bar:D :D I find if I take a big breath in as if I am going to burst into song helps too (god I sound like a nutter).
STILL on the ground since first posting on this thread- two falls and a trip to A&E <groan> have done so much groundwork and lungeing I can now only walk in circles:rolleyes: but have really started to get some great work out of my baby and everyone has complimented me on his improved manners! Even cantered alongside him the other day and it was so sweet I asked for it by doing stupid girly cantery skip and he did his canter just as light and girly as mine!!!!I fell about laughing and gave him huge fuss for copying me so accurately- what a clever hoss!

haha That canter sounds cute. I did the same thing just to embarrass my hubby while we were on a walk around the neighborhood and it worked too. He gets the cutest embarrassed look while trying not to laugh!

laura jeanne - I have this great image of you and your hubby going for a walk (no horses), and you skipping along, and his legs copying you against his will..... :D
