I bought mine in Canada for the eqivalent of less than £5. They are made with thicker rope than the ones that cost £17 or more but that means they are not so severe. They are just used as everyday halters there. I have noticed that Derby House are now doing the same thing for a sensible price and I think Robinsons are as well.

Just thought you might like to save some money.

Shires Equestrian make a rope halter for about £2.50! I've seen them in the flesh, and they seem pretty good for the price.

One size only, but if you're any good with knots, you should be able to adjust it fairly easily.

One colour only as well, but it will soon become mud-coloured, so not really a big deal.

I'd rather make my own, but for the money, this one seems pretty good :)
