Cochise

Hmmmmn, none of those, it is mainly road riding with large trucks zooming past. :o

I can handle large trucks but cantering when riding......... nope
Cantering in the cart .........yes

I chose 'falling off' but right now I am actually more afraid of OH falling off again than of myself falling off...

Definitely jumping! I always have been though. My instructor doesn't understand why I'm so scared as he says I've got a good secure jumping position, but I guess my nerves just take over & I don't really enjoy it much!
If I get to know a horse really well & take it at my own pace then I'm ok but I don't like it just now! :D

Definitely falling off. I've already done myself more than enough damage.
But aren't the other options the same thing, really? Aren't people afraid of cantering because they feel as though they are about to fall off, or they have no control of the horse, who might then do sommthing to make them fall off? Same with jumping - wouldn't you be scared to jump in case the horse refused/ran out and you fell off?

Don't do jumping - my biggest fear is being bolted off with as it has happened to me several times in the past. As far as I can say I will never let it happen again - which I why I hardly ever hack out, so sad. Falling off I can handle but not falling off at great speed .........

Haven't tried some of the options so I don't really know yet, but being bolted off with and not being able to regain control - in other words STOP before something happens, this is my biggest fear.
It's all about control with me, if I thought I could control her going over a jump OK, if I thought I could ask for a controlled canter OK, but I can't cope with the applying of the aids and there's no response thing - it's like heading toward a road juntion in your car going for the brakes to start slowing up and NOTHINGS THERE!!!!
I'd feel like doing the same thing in both scenarios, out the side door quick!

Deffinitley falling off is my biggest fear!! I worry about getting my foot caught in the stirrup and getting dragged and I worry about falling off and ending up in a wheelchair or something :(
Why do you ask stephydoo?

Thought about this one, and I think its losing control and proving myself to be the inept rider my head actually thinks I am. I think that's why I won't take risks on Sennie. I think that's a much bigger fear than injuring myself.

My biggest fear related to riding: Running out of money. Paying for all this stuff is much scarier than falling off.

Christopher Reeve syndrome! I've got it too, Kez.:( I even had to read his book to find out exactly how his accident happened, so I could try and avoid the same.

Im not really scared of falling of, but hitting the ground. i know it sounds weird, but a couple of times ive managed to land on my feet, so hitting my butt or landing on my arm and injuring it or somthing is what im most scared of.

None of the above options. My biggest fear when riding is coming across an angry wild boar, snake or lynx that is gonna spook my horse!

My biggest fear isn't so much the falling off part but rather the horse falling over and landing on me. Not sure why.

I voted falling off , but after today I think it's horse tripping . I rode this poor horse who has really bad arthritis ( I'm not an expert so all I noticed was that he was walking funny after awhile, but I didn't know he was in pain :( ) well because he was walking funny I was just walking him to cool him down and put him back in the stall , then he tripped and fell :( .I managed to get off in time and nothing happened , he got right back up , but wow was that scary . If the lady that own him would have mentioned his arthritis before I got on this would have never happened  poor horse!!!!

Cross country water jumps at Training Level?
My biggest fear related to riding is not actually directly related; it's the road, out in front of our property, where people speed by at 80 or 90 mph. I've had nightmares about the horses getting loose and running out onto that road. I've known of several horses who've been hit--fatally--on roads like that.
The two that I can recall specifically both jumped the fence to get loose, for one reason or another, so even being extra-careful about securing gates isn't a sure preventative.

Okay, thought about this one for quite a while and would have to say that my biggest fear when riding is having my horse bolt off and then trip over or go through a fence or something, nothing else bothers me that much. Falling off doesn't scare me that much but I don't intend to let it happen all the same!

I'm 62, so my biggest fear is falling and breaking something!! I'm afraid then that would make me think again about this new hobby that I really love. And I'd HATE that!!

Preparing to jump actually - the jumping itself seems to go smoothly as long as I let Imp do his own thing and just go with him because there happenned to be an obstacle. The minute I start to think 'ok let's have a jump over that' ... urrrgghhh it's getting better but I'm basically a feeble minded whimp when it comes to jumping.

OMG, the first time I ever fell off a horse was onto a concrete road in Tunisia and all I could think of as I went in what seemed like slow-motion onto the floor was 'Christoper Reeve, Christopher Reeve, Christopher Reeve'!:o
Luckily I did one of those 'land on your feet for 2 seconds then teeter over backwards onto your bottom' dismounts, so no harm done - but it was scary at the time!
My worst fear is the bolting one - being onboard but having absolutely no control at all - it's only ever happened to me once but it was absolutely terrifying and it took me a long time to get over it.

A horse bolting is my biggest worry. I don't like the thought that i wouldn't be in control of the horse and that anything could happen. My friend had his horse try to bolt on a slippy corner and it went down. He managed to free himself with no bones broken.
I don't mind jumping on my horse as my balance is attuned to her and is fine. I get twitchy and nervous when i go to another yard to have a jumping lesson as i ride a different horse each week. I worry about the landing not the rest of it as i have a real knack of losing my balance as i land, going 5 strides then walloping into the menage at some point  :)

I worry about having any type of falling off incident that might make me totally lose my confidence and fear riding from then on.
Don't think I' m worried about pain as such but this thought really frightens me - imagine suddenly being scared of doing something you really love and has previously occupied so much of your time and thoughts.

As I haven't ridden regularly for the past three years (university will do that to you :o ), I realize now that I am thinking about getting back into horses that I have a lot more fears than I used to. I am terrifed of falling off and having a horse kick me in my face and then be permanently disfigured! Or getting dragged by a horse....or having a horse squash me somehow. I've fallen off horses in the past, and one time my Arab gelding bolted while I was riding near a friend's house (damn trucks!!), and I fell off and he stepped on my leg! Luckily nothing was broken (on him or me!) and all I have now (three years later) is a lil dent in my leg.
I always rode small-medium sized horses (Quarter horses, Arab's and welsh pony mixes) but now I'm wanting to try larger breeds (I love drafty-types), but I am a bit nervous.....

i think my horse falling would scare me quite a bit...you have a degree of controll when falling off yourself..like knowing the right way..it takes practice, unfortunately

the moment when you realise youre totally out of control and something horrible is about to happen (fall, traffic accident etc.). other than that: a horse falling with/on me (which has happened to me once but luckily she only got my foot and nobody was hurt!)!

Another vote for bolting.
I don't enjoy falling off who does:) but what i hate most is the feeling of complete terror when the horse is in a blind panic .Your life depends on luck i.e Is the gate going to be closed is there going to be a lorry around the next bend etc etc. And yes my horse did it again on saturday and he has only recently come back from 3 weeks at Gary Withefords:mad:

My bigest fear is the horse getting hurt while Im ridding.
Having said that, they are quite amazing creatures. Last week I thought we were going to hit the deck hard, big style, while at a very quick canter.
Tom lost his front legs for a moment {nasty slip} his head dropped so so low, I kept still and sat tall { had my stirrups set long and as always, my seat saver too} its never happened to me before.
Tom found his 5th and 6th legs:D and onward he went like "did you notice something happen back there Fred?" I said to him "well done Tom!" he knew I ment that, with all my heart, it makes such a difference I think.
I think my business partner would have lost all his hair had he seen what happened:eek: .I sense at work there real worried 'fear' that I spend time with horses and go ridding.
Im real happy that I do
