Hi
My pony has developed a cough. He has been coughing for a week now. He is out at grass and doesn't get hay yet so it isn't a dust cough. The vet says it is likely to be viral and I should just let the virus run its course. He only has a tiny bit of white snot and only had a mild fever for the first day or so. How long would you expect it to take for him to stop coughing?

Mine all caught this bug from one horse coming in from another barn and it took them about a week - 10 days to recover. There was still some exercise-induced coughing for a week after that.

If it doesn't clear, get the vet out. Of my four, the foal couldn't shake it and it went into his lungs and required antibiotics. He's better now.

HI.. I had a problem too with my gelding coughing and was on penicillin for 4 days and ended up getting worse than better... I only had him about 2 weeks and had been worming him and found out that I should try one more wormer.. and so I did and guess what... he had some round worms and now is running around like a crazy man... he couldn't do much of anything there for a few days with out coughing his poor guts out.. it started with just a little sneezy cough at first... you can read my post on it.
it the one COUGH GETTING WORSE ON MEDICATION
Im new still to still pets... Ive had my mini mare for 9 months now and she never gave me any troblem just wormed her once a month.. but I bought these two males (a gelding and stallion) knowing that they looked sick but they were what I had been looking for about 6 months....
hope that your pet gets better...:)

I did get the vet out and he said it is a virus, but was wonderig when I can expect the cough to go.
