This is such a great site - I'm a new horse owner and have alot to learn. For instance. my mare (11 yrs) is in heat and very moody. Normally, she is very sweet but now seems possessed.
Anyone, have any idea how long mood swings last? She wasn't this moody last month.

Hi....I don't know much about mares but you are in the right place for advice. From what I have seen this group knows a lot about almost everything. Try checking past posts about mares in heat. Good luck!:)

I am very lucky in as my mare doesn't get too bad when in season. And she's very sweet when she's not. So, I can't help you...so why am I posting? Heh. Well...1, to say hello and also to mention that I do know that some mares get really bad as to be unrideable during that time. One of my friend's had a mare that she gave a calmer to during that time (not Moody Mare, but something similar), anyhow, it did help.

Hi again,
I had to laugh this morning when I went to visit my mare. Her behavior was even more intense. Ah, the call of mother nature.
Hopefully, she will be back to her regular self in a week.But there is no way I'm sitting on her when she is like this :)

Welcome to Newrider! I have a gelding so don't have the mood issues, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to help. You might like to start another thread with something like "moody mare" as the title so that people with either moody mares or experience will read and answer.
