Lameness Could This Happen

If a dog bit a small pony on the fetlock joint could it cause loss of the Synovial fluid and so stiffness and lameness. The bite was a couple of months ago now, there was no blood but found some dried stuff the next day.
If it can is there anyway it can be sorted and completely repaired or would the joint fluid come back on its own.

The main risk with a puncture wound on a join is that of infection. Though I'd expect the lameness sooner.
I think joint fluid does regenerate, but I would get the vet out for a detailed investigation as wounds on joints are serious.
