It was Wednesday and I was just getting home from school. As usual I had a snack and then I was headed to my neighbors house to check on my lease horse named Cody. As I headed around the house to open the gate, I noticed that Cody was laying down in the arena. I thought that this was a bit unusual for him and so I hurried my way to go and see what was wrong. I called his name and he got up, but insead of coming me, he trotted to his stall, pawed and layed right back down. I knew that something was wrong, and I knew it had to be colic. Luckily my friend was there with me and so I was able to get Cody up and keep him wallkig while she made phone calls to various poeple. Our usual vet was out of town, so we contaced an emergency vet and found out that the vet was busy and that one should arrive any where near 3 hours. I wanted to break down and cry, but I knew I had to be strong. My friend and I walked Cody around for 5 hours, and the vet finally arrived at 5:30. I was so glad to see the vet, but I was afraid to hear what she had to say. She did several things to him, and said that he was really gassed up and that his large intestine was out of place. She said that surgery would fix him no matter what, but a 7,000 dollar surgery was not an option for me, a 16 year old girl with out a job. I worried for my horses life....my lease horse that i have only had for three weeks now. The vet left me at 900 to watch Cody all night. She said to call her if he acted more restless. At 3:30 am I could tell he was in a lot of pain and I conntacted the vet and she was there in an hour. She said that she only had one more choice and that was to stick a needle in his stomach to let out some of the gas. So she did and she let out a lot of gas. She said if that didnt work, then we would have to put him to sleep, because he was in such a lot of pain. It turns out that he is all better...well at least for now. He is eating, pooping, peeing, and acting like his normal self again. Thank goodness...its amazing what miracles God can perform. Even the vet didnt think he was going to live through it....not unless he had surgery. What a close call...
