Is this nesissary?
The horse I have just begun to share was brought on to our yard on thursday night. he was double wormed as all new horses are.
The thing is that this saturday is the whole yards worming day & they want to worm him again.
In your experiences is this nessisary & will it have any adverse affects on him.
Thank you :D

Hello Gems Tiger. How are you?
Re the worming, I never heard anything so stupid in all my life! What are these people thinking of, certainly not the horses health?
When you say 'double wormed' do you mean for encysted worms and tapeworm? eg Equest and Equitape? That is the best way to worm an unknown quantity, who may or may not have had worms in the first place (no worm count done ?). If these were used then he will not need worming again for THREE MONTHS. If you do a worm count in a couple of weeks there should be nothing showing.
If they have used other products to worm him then they may not have treated as well as they thought due to resistance etc.
There is no point in filling him full of poisons again a few days later whatever was used.
Why do people not use worm counts? They will save money and have a more effective worming programme and healthier horses in the long run.

Hi Gill, im fine hope you are too.
I know it seams like madness. He was wormed with Equest and Equitape, but they now want to worm him with equavelan (correct me if i am wrong miriam). Will this harm his health, if so do you think i have a case to put forward to our YO as to not worm him.
And tell us about the money side. over £30 in one week for wormers cant be doing poor zebedee any good
Thanks for your reply

There would be no point at all in worming him with Eqvalan now. It would be a comlpete waste of time, money and effort, also not good for his health.
Can they give you one good reason for doing this?

No, only that they all need to be done at the same time, on the same regular worming program. its not their fault that the yard worming fell one week after he was wormed.
Thanks for your help Gill :D

I agree that worming him again after a week is unnecessary and not good for him.
For goodness sake, he can be wormed with the others next time. Going a week longer than them is NOT going to make a great deal of difference. I agree that all horses on a yard should be wormed together but what happened to common sense here?

It's called tunnel vision!
I would print off Gill's reply & give it to the YO!
