Hi!
I mentioned in another thread that my horse didnt like his bridle going on any tips of how to get him to trust me putting on his bridle as he is so gentle any other time.
Also how deadly are acorns to a 7yo New forest x Thoroughbred as were not sure if he has eaten one and how soon until we know??????????
Thanx!!!!!

Eeps. I've read somewhere that acorns are not good, they are deadly, but they can make a horse a bit sick.;)

If he's only eaten one then I wouldn't worry, just make sure he doesn't get at any more 'cos they aren't good for them.

I used to have the same problem with the bridle because my pony was very headshy, and hated people touching her ears. However, I found that by stroking her head and ears for a little while each day, she gradually got used to being touched there. Also, it's much easier if you undo extra buckles on the bridle so you don't have a massive struggle trying to pull it over your horse's ears. My pony is now fine with the bridle, though occasionally she panics when I try to put it on and I just have to reassure her and stroke her ears until she calms down. :)

I used t have same prob I changed the bit and the prob went away. Also put the bridle on in a very low-key 'I dont care if this goes on or not' way, nonchalance is catching!

Would agree with hackedoff - our small pony does not like having her bridle put on, but I just do it is a matter of fact way and not make a fuss about. Obviously not harsh at all, and when she has it on give her praise for it, and normally a polo or something to say well done. I also give her something once she has taken it off as as well. This way she is gradually beginning not to mind her bridle at all. I also talked to someone else on my yard and they had the same problem too, they used to leave the bridle for an hour or so, whilst they groomed their horse and this helped them.
