My horse (Dave) is the most accident prone horse going, I got him eight months ago, the first week I got him he was kicked in the field on his knee, whch infected the joint and then led to an operation, more recently he had laminitis whilst at the same time also having an abcess on his fetlock, my problem is he doesn't seem to heal well at all, he is always getting bitten or kicked in the field and the cuts never seem to heal without getting infected (despite my best efforts) does anyone know of any way to boost his immune system or stop him being so accident prone? Its so depressing when its one thing after another - despite all this he is actually a lovely horse

Just had to say i love your horse's name!!!
Unfortunately we can't wrap our neddies in cotton woll and injuries happen, but you can make sure his surroundings are as safe as possible. Check his field, make sure the fencing is all secure, no broken fencing or barbed wire. Check he is ok with his fieldmates and not getting bullied.
My horse Jack is always getting bitten and having chunks taken out of him (he gets on with all his field mates, but they play rough, they're all tough cobs and he's a thinned skinned TB who thinks he's tough!), in the end i just stick a rug on him and its cut the number of wounds he comes in with.
There are supplements that boost the immune system, try doing a search on google, or take a look at www.globalherbs.co.uk they do ImmuPlus. I haven't used it but have used some of their other products which have been very good.
Hope he's OK now!
