Cleaning Brushes

Hi,

I was wondering how you guys clean your brushes (like dandy brush, body brush, soft brush, face brush, etc)?

After grooming each time of course I clash/rub the brush and currycomb together...

but can you wash it with water or something? Or would it ruin the bristles? HAve you ever washed yours - if so, how? Or do you just get new ones every month? lol..

i'll wash my brushes every so often. Usually i dilute some bleachin warm water and let them soak for a bit before rinsing them out and setting them out to dry.

I wouldn't do this super often and maybe not with super soft face brushes, but for the stiff brushes and nonmetal curry combs its great.

I've probably only done this a few times since i'v ehad my brushes, but they havne't fallen apart on me at all, and i've had them for years.

I wash all our brushes fairly often in the summer as its the show season. Wouldn't want to spend hours washing and then brush with dirty brush:)

I find the best thing to use is fairy (or similar liquid for hand washing dishes) in warm water. This is great as it removes all the grease As long as brushes aren't left in water too long they are fine even the varnished wooden ones!

i wash my brushes throughly about 3 times a year and rinse them about once a moth (and none have fallen apart!). first i remove all the stuck in hair and then do a quick rinse to get any loose dust off. then i use a gentle dish soap and wash them (scrub them and get all dirt off) then i rinse them and soak them in a water/bleach (reasonable amount of bleach so i wear gloves, but not too much) for about a minute and then rinse again and let them air dry in the sun (brissles down) intill they are really dry!

i basically do it to all my grooming stuff, from brushes to hoof picks to sweat scraper.

I clean mine every couple of months.

A bowl of warm water with a little bit of washing up liquid - and then leave to dry on an old towel - lovely.:D

I use a little bit of hibiscrub in warm water, then rinse well and leave to drain dry.

Once a week I wash all my brushes in warm soapy water - not hot as this can shrink the bristles- and then rinse them well to get rid of all the soap.
Always dry the metal curry comb with an old duster so that it wont go rusty.
Shake them all well and leave them upright to dry.
Never wash your hoof oil brush with anything as the oil will cling to it!!
Dont forget the grooming tray aswell.
Clean brushes will give you a cleaner horse!!
