I just got my horse not to long ago, she is only 11 years old..she is an Arab/T'bred cross. she is an amazing jumper! when i got her, i could hardly jump 1 ft. cross rails!! in 3 months i made huge progress, im jumping 2'6 fences now. My lesson teacher didnt expect me to be moving along this fast. She says its cause im very brave and im very attached to my horse, so i do have alot of trust in her....Anyway, we were jumping about a week ago and all of a sudden she went lame on me. Its happend before, just when we are jumping. my instructor thinks its a stifle problem...were taking her to see the vet and she might need surgery on it, were taking her 2 and 1/2 hours just to have surgery with one of the best vetrinarians around!! She is on some joint supplements now and the vet is gonna give her some injections (shots). Is this all worth it? Is it a common problem? im just worried i wont be able to jump her anymore. Even if i cant, im still keeping her!! I just want to know more about it, like if other people have this problem with their horse and what they do. my instructor said to ride her up and down hills to build up muscle..will this help?
