Does anyone know of farriers within the Essex area that take on board NH principles of hoof care / trimming etc.
I want to take my horses shoes off this late autumn and would feel better if I had the support and advice from the professionals i.e. a sympathetic farrier. One who would work with me and not just see it as a nutty faddy thing to try.
Any info would be most welcome.

Hi

I have recently taken my horses shoes off and found that i was better of with a Barefoot trimmer rather than a farrier. They speacilise in working barefoot horses. my farrier was very supportive about me removing the shoes but seemed to not think that my horses feet needed a proper trim. I still wanted my horse to be balanced!

The barefoot trimmer on the other hand was excellent, gave me homeowrk to build up the structure of my horses feet, took over an hour to trim (no nippers!) was patient and kind to my horse. she also took photos before and after and records the information regualry to check the canges in his feet.

My trimmer is K C La pierre trained and I am going on a KC course this week to learn more about it, but having seen the changes in my horses feet I am very impressed. It's a very gentle method, not invasive and my horse is never sore after his trim. So far the improvement has been excellent and consistant.

The website is www.equinepodiatry.net and the uk adminstrater justine jenkins is very helpful.

good luck
Nic
