ok i've heard of three-day events but one-day events? someone told me it was where you do dressage, cross-country and showjumping all in one day. now to take my pony through a dressage test, a cross-country course and showjumping course all in one day my pony would drop dead by the end. how on earth can you do it? is it all complicated stuff or can you do teeny tots level (as in 2ft3-2ft6 courses and easy-peasy dressage tests) cos i'd really like a go despite my confusion! any advice about the whole thing would be great!

Where I live most of are events are only 1-day. Are levels are Starter(pre-training 80) Per Training, Training and Pliminary. Even at this low level you still NEED a very fit horse as doing all 3 in one day is very hard work for both horse and human. Some times they take place over 2 days. You have Dressage and XC on day1 and SJ on day2! You show try it! Eventing is the best!

One day events are brilliant !
You do have to work quite hard getting your horse fit - but they are so much fun - it is well worth effort !
Most of the riding clubs near me hold beginner 2"6 ODE - the dressage test used is a Prelim test - so nice and basic !
I love eventing because you have set times - so you know where you need to be at certain times. You don't spend hours waiting to jump which is what normally happens at show jumping !
My horse is a good all rounder - but not outstanding at any one thing - therefore he is suited to eventing. Having said that I am working hard on the dressage at the moment ans the standard is high round here !
Good luck if you decide to go eventing - but be warned once you start you get the bug and can't stop !!

Eventing was invented as a test of altheticism, agility and endurance of military horses. It takes a strong, althetic horse to event top level in the 3 phases.
There are the official 3 day events, there are "horse trials" which are 2 day events and then there are the 1 day event. The one day events have a much shorter cross country course. They are great and fun and good experience for your horse.

ODE's are very popular here in Cornwall. As princes_paris said the x-country is fairly short (compared to 3 day events)

Thats why your horse would need to be super fit to do a one day event. At BE events, intro is the smallest class with a cross country height of 3ft. Most riding clubs run one day events over smaller fences. its an expensive sport if you want to compete at BE competitions, but a lot of fun :)
