Hi
Ive had my 7 yo part thoroughbred gelding for 7 weeks and hes been lovely to do everything with but the last couple of days hes started cantering round his field bucking etc. Today i was riding and he kept walking on. My stirrups were different lengths as i had just got on. He started in trot then started cantering towards the gate and bucking quite violently and i fell off and am very bruised! My dad made me get back on and walked him round was this the right thing to do????

I dont know why hes started doing this. Also he keeps wanting to come out into our 2 acre garden as we have been letting him out He rolls and loves being here with us. However tonight he didn't come out i wanted to ride him in his paddock. He bites the fence, paws etc trying to get out.

I would really appreciate any help!

Thanx
:D

Is this horse kept with other horses, or by itself? If he is kept by himself, that is probably the problem. He is bored and restless, and needs the company of other horses, even if it is once a week.
Otherwise, I would not be concerned about him bucking in his enclosure, he is a horse and they like to kick up their heels. However, during riding when he starts to buck, immediately but gently pull his head to one side towards about where your shin is (make sure to keep his head level or you will throw him off balance). This move will turn him a circle, slow him down, and he will not be able to buck or rear. Do this everytime, and he will eventually learn not to do this. Also this is the safest way to stop him and protect yourself from injury. I hope this will help
