Took copper to his first XC event this wkend, it was only a schooling session which i thought was best as the nearest thing he had jumped to a xc fence was a log in the woods, anyway we started of and he travelled fine and warmed up lovely but then i took him to the warm up jump which was just a random log of about 2ft and he refused, EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! well i was due to start so unfortunately i had to go through the start line, less than confident knowing i had a 22 fence course of 2'3-3'3 jumps full of ditches, steps, trakehners, logs, barrels etc and he wouldnt even jump a log...(smaller than the one he normally jumps most wkends)...well got to the first jump and it was a rusty barrel about 2'3 in height and he flew, anyway sparing you the details of a fence to fence update...haha...he flew round, didnt look twice as he went up the steps, jumped the 3ft spread sanpit with ease, over bright blue barrels, jumps a 3'3 log (funny lil devil) and basically flew bravely round this course jumping fences from 2'3 and some at 3'3, we just had the one refusal which was a log on stilts at about 3ft but he jumped it the second time i tried. so overall a very pleased rider and a sweating horse jumped over the flower bed and cantered through the finish line, was very pleased with him and he made my day, being only 13.2 and never done it before i think he did excellent and is proving to be more of a xc pony than a sj :D hopefully get some competitions signed up soon,
