Any one have a Crates saddle ? I have been looking at a lot of saddles lately and sat in tons at the tack shops. Billys, dales, circle y , tex tan , crates. I liked the feel of the Crates. When I sat on it, on the saddle rack in the store. I am thinking I may take it along with with a Billy and try them on my mare next week , during my lesson , so that I can have my instructor look at them and see how they fit the horse and my self.
But I can't seem to find out too much about the Crates saddles.
Are they well made ? It looks fine, to me but alas I know nothing about saddle building.

Denise,

It depends on what your using the saddle for, and how your horse is built.

I have looked at a few of them and they seem to be made okay, they seem to be little lighter saddle, just be sure the tree is not made out of fiberglass, they do break easier and once you have a broken tree, your out a saddle. I did not check to see for my self.

I shopped around a very long time before deciding on my newest saddle, one reason is my QH is very stocky so I could not get away with a smaller saddle.

Just wanted you to keep in mind that the fit is very important to the horse, not just your bum;)

If you have not checked them out, you may check Bob's Custom saddles, that is what I ended up going with, they are little more pricey then the ones you were looking at, however, the site also has used saddles. It is one of the most comfortable saddles I have ever had and fits Sonne to a T.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
